The iTube Pro app was originally developed for iPhone and iPad because it overcame some limitations with the official app on that platform. The app, however, became so popular on iOS that the developers chose to ride that success onto the Android platform. While the app doesn’t really overcome limitations on Android, it certainly provides an alternative approach to YouTube viewing.

One of the things that this app does really well is playlist management. Whether your favoriting music videos or cat videos, the app lets you favorite videos and create playlists that are independent of each other. If you watch YouTube a lot, this is a powerful feature, and you can still access your subscriptions, what’s trending and so forth.

The other thing this app does well is letting YouTube videos play in the background and without interfering with other apps. When you couple background playing along with sophisticated playlist management, what you have is an amazing YouTube music player. Some users use this app for just that, and it eliminates the hoops some users jump through to get music from YouTube. The one downside to this approach, of course, is the additional bandwidth usage.

The biggest issue with iTube Pro is that it doesn’t offer offline playback, and the effect of this omission is likely compounded because the app offered the feature at one time and then pulled it. Despite this missing featured, try it. It may still be your go-to app for managing YouTube videos, but it’s hard to recommend a non-official YouTube app that doesn’t deliver that feature set.
